The Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga has dismissed growing calls to amend the Constitution to allow the DCI and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to take up prosecution powers, warning that such a shift would destabilise Kenya’s justice system. Appearing before the Senate Committee on National Cohesion, Renson Igonga said recent public suggestions to empower investigative agencies with prosecutorial authority are misguided and threaten to interfere with the ODPP’s constitutional mandate.
