The government of Kenya has been ordered to pay the Ogiek community 157.8 million Shillings for material and moral damages incurred during their eviction from the Mau forest. The African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights, in handing down the judgment, stated that the evictions violated the rights of the Ogiek community, and that Kenya should grant the Ogiek a collective land title to their ancestral lands.
