Kisii County Woman Member of National Assembly Dorice Donya Aburi, has called for stronger punitive measures against perpetrators who sexually exploit minors. During a media briefing at a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Recovery Centre in Kisii town, she noted that the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which seeks to strengthen the existing Sexual Offences Act (2006) by introducing harsher penalties and enhancing protection for survivors is already at an advanced stage in parliament. Aburi also emphasized the need for better education and sensitization, noting that many GBV survivors are unaware of how to properly collect and preserve evidence, which often weakens prosecutions.
