Commercial gold mining in Ramula Siaya, to begin next year amid protests

The mining of gold deposits in Ramula Siaya County is set to commence on a commercial scale after the government issued the mining licence to Shanta Gold company this week. Tens of households will subsequently be relocated to make way for the mining process. But as Achola Simon reports, the company faces an uphill task in meeting its set date of June 2026 as the commencement date for mining amid resistance from the locals.
