Health advocates in Kilifi are pushing for a return to healthier eating options urging Kenyans to embrace plant-based diets as a simple path to better living.Speaking during the closing ceremony of the Vegan Restaurant Week, vegan champion Virginia Ruguru said plant-based meals are affordable, nutritious and can help prevent diabetes, hypertension and obesity. She noted that plant foods have always been part of Kenya’s food culture however the lure of junk food has seen the rise in unhealthy eating habits linked to modern lifestyles changes.
