The International Conference on Colonial Crimes in Africa, held in Algiers, Algeria has concluded with calls for the establishment of National Truth and Reparations Commissions within African Union member states as part of the Algiers Declaration. Delegates at the two-day forum also recommended full restitution of colonial archives and accountability for crimes committed, including their lasting impact on African societies. The conference supports the creation and strengthening of legal mechanisms at national, regional and continental levels to criminalize colonization under international law.
