Kilifi County government, in partnership with AMREF Health Kenya, has made strides in the treatment and eradication of hydrocele and elephantiasis diseases in the county through surgical camps and integrated healthcare.In a program launched four years ago, more than 300 patients, both children and the elderly, have undergone surgical procedures to remove swellings. Hydrocele disease is a Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) spread by mosquitoes, and it affects the male reproductive parts, while elephantiasis affects males on the legs, hands, groin area and scrotum and in women, it affects the hands and legs.
