The government is considering adding Kenya Airways to the public-private partnership deal to revamp Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as a strategy to revive the National air carrier. Appearing before the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee, Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo defended the government's financial support to Kenya Airways, saying it was performing in the national interest. MPs, however, questioned the values of public monies being loaned out to Kenya Airways and demanded a commitment plan for repaying the loans. So far, the government has lent at least 130 billion shillings to Kenya Airways despite owning 48 per cent of the company's shares.
