The government says it has turned around an education sector it found in distress, tackling issues ranging from a troubled Competency Based Curriculum transition and teacher shortages to overstretched university finances and inadequate infrastructure. President William Ruto, while delivering his third State of The Nation Address before a joint seating of Parliament noted that through a student-centred funding model, nearly 500,000 learners have benefited from scholarships and loans based on need and merit. He added that the recruitment of teachers, the construction of classrooms and laboratories, and rising enrolment in Technical Vocational Education Training institutions are key towards restoring dignity and opportunity in learning.
