According to the ministry of health, Kenya receives about 5000 patients from across the continent every year, seeking medical treatment. According to the kenya medical practitioners and dentists council, the private sector can play a key role in advancing medical tourism. Even though the country earns an average 10 billion shillings a year from the sector, Kenya's share of the global medical tourism market remains small. It is on the back of this that the Aga Khan hospital has signed a partnership with national carrier Kenya airways. The partnership will allow patients to get preferential rates on the national carrier, while seeking specialised care at the hospital.
