Several street lights have been erected at Amalemba Informal Settlement Scheme in Kakamega County, courtesy of the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project. Among the projects being undertaken are the tarmacking of roads within the scheme, a move that will help improve livelihoods and enhance security in the area.
Residents say cases of theft and attacks have gone down since the installation of street and flood lights. Similar upgrades are also ongoing in other informal settlements, including Kambi Somali in Kakamega town, where sewer lines and roads are being upgraded to bitumen standards.
