A member of the Siaya County Assembly has been questioned by police over allegations of planning a protest against an investor in the Yala Swamp. Central Alego MCA David Ababa Ragen spent more than an hour at the Siaya Directorate of Criminal Investigations offices after being summoned by security officers who accused him of mobilizing residents against Lake Agro Limited, a firm cultivating sugarcane in the wetland. Ragen, however, dismissed the summons as an attempt to silence residents’ push to have the swamp registered as community land, insisting residents have a constitutional right to peaceful protest.
