Govt releases three million shillings in support of affected families in Mombasa

Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki has released three million shillings in government support to assist families who lost their sons in the tragic boat accident during the East African Ocean Festival held in Mombasa two weeks ago. The money is aimed at supporting the families with burial arrangements that had stalled due to financial constraints.The deceased families have renewed calls for better safety measures in water sports events across the coast region. The accident occurred when a boat carrying 22 participants capsized near the finish line. 19 people were rescued, three died. Their bodies were recovered through a coordinated multi-agency operation led by the Kenya Navy.
