Woman shot dead as police try to disperse surging crowd at Raila’s night vigil in Homa Bay

    A woman was shot dead on Thursday night outside Homa Bay Police Station after a police officer fired a warning shots in the air to disperse a crowd that had gathered for a vigil in honour of the late Raila Odinga. The victim identified as Yvonne Lucy, was reportedly a passerby heading home from her business when she was struck by a stray bullet. Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Jashon Odhiambo Pollo said the incident unfolded when mourners, who had been peacefully marching since Wednesday approached the station, with some attempting to enter the compound. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) have launched a joint probe into the incident.
