The government is set to borrow a total of ksh 861 billion, raising concerns that this figure may hit ksh 1 trillion during or before the end of this financial year. This follows the government's intention to settle pending bills owed to contractors and a reduction in tax revenue targets by ksh 93 billion. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) missed its tax collection target by ksh 37 billion in the first half of this financial year, which has also led to a reduction in the projected budget for the next financial year.
