A consortium of dental health students from the University of Nairobi has called for the incorporation of dental healthcare into the universal health coverage system. Led by the Dental Students Association of Kenya’s treasurer Njeri Musila, the students said the move will avail the crucial yet often overlooked services to all Kenyans in the country. Speaking during the commemoration of the oral health day at the Varsity’s precincts in Nairobi, the students also lamented the government’s slow pace of absorbing qualified medical students in the field which they say has adversely affected the provision of oral healthcare in the country. The students are set to undertake a weeklong exercise of providing free dental services at the University’s sports grounds to celebrate this year’s oral health day, themed a happy mouth, a happy mind.
