The Council of Governors has issued a 14-day ultimatum for a complete shutdown of counties over funding cuts by the national government. Speaking after holding an extraordinary meeting in Nairobi, the governors faulted the diversion of conditional grants in considering and passing the county government's additional allocation bill 2025, saying counties will lose up to 38 billion shillings. The county bosses are also demanding the immediate release of the equitable share from the national treasury which is in arrears for 3 months running to 78 billion shillings.
