The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday carried out a dramatic sting operation targeting the residence and offices of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi and eight senior county officials. The operation follows allegations of irregular and fictitious procurement that reportedly cost Kiambu residents over 1.5 billion shillings. During the raid, officers were forced to use tear gas to disperse a crowd that attempted to block the Governor’s arrest. Governor Wamatangi and the implicated officials were later taken to the EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre in Nairobi, recorded statements, and were released pending arraignment. Our reporter Abdiaziz Hashim has the details.
