The government has declared an all-out war on land cartels who have been linked with the growing squatter crisis in Machakos County. Speaking after presiding over the Jukwaa la Usalama security forums in Machakos Town, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen revealed that top government officials, politicians, police officers, land officers, and criminal gangs are among perpetrators of illegal land dealings, which have rendered Mavoko Sub County a major hideout for criminals.
