The government has allocated 100 million shillings in the supplementary budget to drill ten additional boreholes in Taita Taveta County, boosting access to water for domestic use, livestock, and irrigation.
Speaking during the commissioning of the two solar-powered boreholes in Wololo and Machungani, Challa Ward and Taveta Sub-county, Principal Secretary for the State Department of ASALs and Regional Development, Kello Harsama, said the newly completed wells produce high yields of 18,000 litres per hour in Machungani and Wololo pumps 8,000 litres per hour respectively. He further added that the water will be sufficient for domestic needs, livestock, and irrigation across more than 50 acres of farmland.
