Opposition leaders have sharply condemned a surge of political violence in Bungoma County, after armed attackers disrupted a campaign event in Kabuchai, forcing Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya to flee for safety. Several of his supporters were seriously injured. Led by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa and DCP Secretary General Cleophas Malala, the leaders are accusing powerful political forces of orchestrating chaos to intimidate voters ahead of the Chwele–Kabuchai ward by-election.
