The bottom-up football journey announced by President William Ruto three weeks ago had a test run in Budalangi where AFC Leopards cubs beat the under 19 Isambo elite team 2-1. The match marked the end of the Isambo beach festival presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Ababu Namwamba. The annual bottom-up football tournament is a two-faced pilot project that is geared towards qualifying the national football team the Harambee Stars to the 2030 World Cup. But before that, talents from the project are expected to form the team will compete to win the Africa Cup of Nations that Kenya hopes to jointly host in 2027.
