A special security team will be deployed in western Kenya counties to neutralize rising cases of gangs and goons who are terrorizing residents, threatening public order and security. The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, said that 175 goons have been arrested in Trans Nzoia and have already been arraigned in court. He noted that there is a rise of goons and gangs, some attached to politicians, while others are due to the proliferation of changaa, disco matanga, and other societal challenges. Addressing the media in Kakamega, Murkomen said the goons and gangs are fueled by incentives from politicians for protection when they attend public gatherings, funerals, and other events where they clash with their opponents.
