A new human rights report has revealed a disturbing rise in cases of harassment, violence, and other abuses on sexual and gender minorities in Kenya. The report, released by the civil society groups, led by the Kenya Human Rights Commission-KHRC documents over 2100 incidents within just one year, raising serious concerns about safety, mental health, and the state of justice in Kenya. Most of the cases were concentrated in Nairobi, Thika, Machakos, and the Coastal region, which together accounted for over 80 percent of the reported abuses. Alarmingly, the report shows that many victims were attacked by people they knew, including family members, intimate partners, and even service providers, leaving survivors battling depression, trauma, and in some cases, suicidal thoughts. Our reporter Ben Chumba now looks at the findings.
