Teachers in Kakamega are demanding autonomy for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), decrying the frustration they face in the primary sector where they are based. They want JSS schools to have a principal, deputy principal, and be allowed to carry on with their activities, like extra-curricular activities, without involvement of the head of primary schools. Speaking to the media in Kakamega town, the teachers also warned that they will form their own union if the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) is reluctant to represent their concerns.
