Hofu ya janga la kibinadamu yaongezeka Gaza
Umoja wa mataifa Jumanne ulionya dhidi ya mashambulizi ya ardhini huko Rafah katika Ukanda wa Gaza, ukisema mashambulizi hayo yanaweza kusababisha mauaji makubwa katika eneo hilo la kusini mwa Palestina ambako zaidi ya watu milioni 1 wanaishi.
Israel imesema inataka kuwaondoa wanamgambo wa Hamas kwenye maficho yao huko Rafah na kuokoa mateka wa Israel wanaoshikiliwa na Hamas, na inaandaa mipango ya kuwaondoa raia wa Palestina waliokwama huko.
“Operesheni za kijeshi huko Rafah zinaweza kusababisha mauaji makubwa huko Gaza. Zinaweza pia kukwamisha shughuli za kutoa misaada ya kibinadamu ambazo tayari zilikuwa zimedhoofika,” alisema mkuu wa misaada ya kibinadamu kwenye Umoja wa mataifa Martin Griffiths.
Alisema katika taarifa kwamba “Jumuia ya kimataifa imekuwa ikionya dhidi ya athari mbaya za mashambulizi ya ardhini huko Rafah, na serikali ya Israel haiwezi kuendelea kupuuza wito wa Jumuiya ya Kimataifa.
Mazungumzo yanayojumuisha Marekani, Misri, Israel na Qatar kuhusu sitisho la mapigano Gaza yalimalizika Jumanne bila kupiga hatua yoyote huku shinikizo likiongezeka kwa Israel kuachana na mpango wake wa kuishambulia Rafah.
Wakati huo huo Al-Tikeye taasisi ya hisani yenye makao yake Rafah inaendelea kuwalisha Wapalestina wengi wao watoto na wanawake wanaokabiliwa na njaa waliokoseshwa makazi katika mji ulioko upande wa kusini wa Ukanda wa Gaza.
Kwa mujibu wa wizara ya afya Gaza inayoendeshwa na Hamas mashambulizi ya angani na ardhini yanayofanywa na Israel yameuwa watu zaidi ya 28,000 na kujeruhi zaidi ya wengine 65,000 katika eneo finyu la Gaza.
Mashambulizi haya yalianza Oktoba 7 kufuatia mauaji ya Oktoba 7 huko kusini mwa Israel, yaliofanywa na wanamgambo kutoka Gaza waliouwa takriban watu 1,200 na kuwateka watu 250. - AP
