The government has announced a plan to distribute one million national ID cards to Kenyans over the next year. During his visit to the registration offices in Nairobi, where new machines capable of printing 16,000 ID cards per day were displayed, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen stated that over 400,000 ID cards will be sent to chiefs in various regions to help distribute them to citizens and resolve the backlog of uncollected IDs. Murkomen also emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring transparency in the delivery of public services. First-time applicants for ID cards are not required to pay any fees.
