For a while now teen pregnancies and child marriages have been a great obstacle to a girl child education in MAA community, with some girls being forced to forgo school for marriage once they are old enough to conceive or get married off when they become teen mums. The embarrassment of such retrogressive cultural practices in the maa community has since attracted concerted efforts from different stakeholders in a bid to curtail such vises including female genital mutilation. Sensitization forums among locals in Kajiado County are now bearing fruits as the community is now embracing education, with a school in Kajiado West now also acting as a rescue center for several girls who are vulnerable to child marriage.
