Over 3,000 Ethiopian refugees who fled tribal clashes in their homeland and initially sought refuge at Dadaab then Kakuma refugee camps, have now found temporary shelter in Ruiru, Kiambu County. This move follows a violent attack allegedly by South Sudanese refugees in Kakuma, prompting the Ethiopians to seek safety elsewhere. The attack left two Ethiopian refugees dead and several others injured, cementing their reluctance to go back. They live in a congested church in Ruiru, struggling with a lack of food, water, and medicine. They have called on the Kenyan government and international bodies to consider relocating them to a safer and more hospitable environment. Ruiru Deputy County Commissioner Julius Too has acknowledged the severity of the situation and assured that steps are being taken to provide the necessary assistance.
