Homa Bay County government has established a comprehensive blood satellite system to efficiently manage emergencies occasioned by the high rate of maternal mortality in the county. Chief Officer for Health Kevin Osuri believes that a significant number of maternal deaths are due to a lack of sufficient blood during delivery. They are also equipping several sub-county hospitals to perform cesarean surgeries to reduce the time lost during patient transfers for minor surgeries.
