    A new training programme for paediatricians, neonatal nurses is already registering positive outcomes in efforts to reduce maternal deaths. Data from the Kenya Health Information System (KHIS) indicates that over 70 percent of neonatal deaths is, as a result of prematurity, death sepsis as well as birth asphyxia. And as NTV’s Judith Cherono now reports, the programme dubbed Essential Newborn Care Program has seen mothers and their newborns at the Vihiga County Referral Hospital evade the risks associated with pre-term deliveries.
