Senators have approved the appointment of Douglas Kanja as Inspector General of Police urging him to prioritise improving the welfare of police officers and enhance the capacity of police reservists in arid areas. The Senate while debating the motion to approve the report by the joint security committees of both houses also condemned recent killings of anti-government protesters by police and demanded that the new police boss must reform the service. The National Assembly that is currently on recess is likely to convene a special sitting this week to consider the same report on approval of the Inspector General of Police.
