On October 21, 1974, a young woman, Victoria Meme, came calling at a plush Nairobi home looking for a job. She was only 23-years-old. Despite her parents being opposed to her going to the big city in search of employment, Victoria’s mind was already made up. And just like that she landed a house help job at the home of popular and celebrated author David Maillu where she has worked to-date.
