The Communication Organization of Workers Union is calling for a tripartite meeting with employers and the Government to forge a way forward on how to cushion workers on the new Social Health Authority deductions which they say have raided workers’ pay slips following its implementation. Speaking in Nairobi, COTU Assistant Secretary General Benson Okwaro called on the government to deduct SHA and house levy from basic salary and not from gross salary as it will be the only solution since SRC has blocked further salary increment through CBA negotiations. Salaried workers are reeling from the implementation of the SHA deductions after transitioning from NHIF with deduction set at 2.75% of the gross pay.
