The Taita Taveta University has organized training for small-scale and artisanal miners drawn from Kakamega and Vihiga counties to build their capacity to benefit from the enterprise.The training focuses on safety measures, proper use of equipment during mining, how to make maximum benefit from Gold mining, environmental consciousness and welfare. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics, training and Outreach Programs at the University, Professor Christine Onyango said most artisanal miners lack skills thus exposing them to mining disasters causing accidents and deaths.
