Baba, Mke na Wanafamilia wamlilia Hayati Kiptum
Ndugu na jamii ya mwanariadha aliyevunja rekodi ya dunia Kelvin Kiptum huko katika Kaunti ya Elgeyo Marakwet walikusanyika nyumbani kwa nyota wa riadha Jumatatu kuifariji familia yake baada ya kusikia habari za kifo chake kilichotokana na ajali ya gari.
Baba yake alilia na kughubikwa na hisia wakati alipokuwa ameketi pamoja na waliokuja kuomboleza. Samson Cheruyot, mkulima, alisema Kiptum alitarajia kubadilisha hali ya familia yake kwa umaarufu alioupata ghafla, na walikuwa wamezungumzia kujenga nyumba na kuipatia familia yake gari.
“Hivi sasa sijui niseme nini; hivi sasa kila mmoja ananiangalia mimi, hatujui tufanye nini,” Cheruyot alisema.
Mkewe, Asenath Cheruto Rotich, alisema kuwa Kiptum alikuwa ni baba mwenye mapenzi kwa watoto wake.
Rotich alisema alikuwa na wasiwasi kuhusu maisha ya watoto wao wawili na kuiomba serikali kumsaidia.
“Ninaiomba serikali inisaidie ili niweze kuwasaidia watoto hawa kama baba yao alivyokuwa anawasaidia. Alikuwa anawapenda watoto wake, sijui hata kile ambacho nitawaambia,” alisema.
Ilikuwa wiki chache zilizopita Kiptum aliapa kuvunja rekodi yake mwenyewe ya dunia kuwa mwanariadha wa kwanza kumaliza mbio za marathon chini ya saa mbili katika mashindano yajayo ya Rotterdam mwezi Aprili, na pia kujitokeza kwa mara ya kwanza katika mashindano ya Olimpiki huko Paris kipindi cha joto.
Ndoto hiyo imekufa Jumapili wakati baba huyo wa watoto wawili mwenye umri wa miaka 24 alipofariki akiwa pamoja na kocha wake katika ajali ya gari huko Rift Valley.
Polisi ilisema mwanariadha huyo alipoteza udhibiti wa gari alilokuwa analiendesha na kuacha njia akitumbukia katika shimo, akiwa amesafiri umbali wa takriban kilomita 0.06 kabla ya kugonga mti mkubwa.
