Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ is celebrating 40 years. The classic charity song, whose funds were meant to fight famine in Africa, included a music supergroup and paved the way for a series of charity concerts. But decades later, there are artists criticising the initiative led by Bob Geldof, claiming it depicts Africa in a negative light. British-Ghanaian rapper Fuse ODG is among them. “Growing up in the UK, I was not proud of being African because of images initiatives like Band Aid were portraying on TV”, says the rapper, in an interview to Focus on Africa. #bandaid #dotheyknowitschristmas #fuseodg 🎤 Reporter: Yvette Twagiramariya 🎬 Producer: Bruno Garcez 🎞️ Edited by: Catherine Heathwood Subscribe: http://bit.ly/subscribetoafrica Website: https://www.bbc.com/africa Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bbcnewsafrica/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/bbcafrica/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bbcafrica/
