The Energy Sector Association of Kenya has warned against overdependence on imported power, saying it poses a risk to the power demand in the country. According to ESAK’s chairperson Eddy Njoroge, Kenya has relied on Ethiopia and Uganda for about 10% of its power needs. Njoroge is warning the dependency has left Kenya disadvantaged, especially during geopolitical misunderstandings. The association, majorly composed of power producers, further advocated for a renewal of contracts for independent power producers in the country, to enable consumers get enough and uninterrupted power.
