The government has been urged to reconsider the planned phasing out of private children’s homes, with stakeholders warning that this move could lead to many children becoming destitute.Jessica Opisa, the Founder of Child of Mercy Children’s Home in Likoni, Mombasa County expressed concern over the government's plan to shut down children's homes, noting the anticipated difficulty of placing children in foster care amid current economic challenges. She appealed to the County and National governments to support the homes and ensure they remain safe havens for vulnerable children. The government, through the National Council for Children’s Services, has been implementing Foster Care Reforms since 2022
