Kisumu governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o is putting on notice unlicensed sand harvesters and miners in the lakeside county whom he is accusing of irresponsible mining practices. Addressing journalists at his office this morning, governor Nyong’o lamented what he described as a sharp increase in illegal mining activities and sand harvesting both on public and private lands, which he said are contributing to environmental degradation. Nyong’o warned miners and sand harvesters in the county to practice their trade within the existing county and national government regulations or risk hefty penalties.
