Ipob: Biafra 'media warriors' call for killings on social media - BBC Africa
A BBC investigation has uncovered a global network of Nigerian separatists based outside the country using social media to spread false information and call for violence against their opponents. It’s revealed what’s been described as a ‘troll farm’ operating worldwide, contravening social media guidelines against hate speech and disinformation.
The investigation by the BBC's Global Disinformation Team found supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, reaching tens of thousands of followers with violent broadcasts, sometimes switching into local languages to avoid moderation from social media platforms.
