The death toll from the ongoing Kalazar outbreak in Wajir county has now reached 20, with increasing calls for the disease to be declared a pandemic. The disease, which has been ravaging the region since september last year, has overwhelmed the local healthcare system, with the county's main level 4 hospital seeing an influx of new admissions daily. In response, most of the hospital’s wards have been converted into Kalazar management units. However, with space running out, many patients have been left to receive treatment outside, under the shade of trees.
