Kenyan Universities face imminent shutdown amid 13.7 billion shilling funding crisis

Universities could be forced to shut down by the end of this financial year if the government fails to settle loans amounting to 13.7 billion shillings. According to the principal secretary for higher education, Beatrice Inyangala, the situation is even more alarming due to a deficit of 11.2 billion scholarship shillings. This financial crisis comes as the principal secretary for basic education, Belio Kipsang, admitted that the government cannot clear pending bills once a financial year ends. Only 25% of the allocated funds for the first term have been disbursed so far.
