The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has called on their insurance provider, minet, to immediately stop converting medical facilities into referral hospitals, citing inadequate equipment in some of these centres. This comes after minet recently announced the reclassification of 17 facilities as referral hospitals, thereby reducing the number of preferred hospitals for teachers. KUPPET has also urged the national treasury to release over 11 billion shillings in delayed capitation, which has been pending for six months, to ensure teachers can access medical services. The failure to settle hospital claims has forced several health facilities to withdraw their services.
