Local leaders and traders in Nakuru County are opposing the move by the county government to close down the multi-million Naivasha slaughterhouse and pave the way for affordable housing and stadium projects. The traders say the slaughterhouse supports over 2000 people directly. They argue that the facility is built on a 55-acre piece of land which they say can accommodate the said projects without demolishing the slaughterhouse. Nakuru County Senator Tabitha Karanja has promised to petition the Senate to intervene.
