Parliament has rejected new hiked charges for birth and death certificates as well as the identity cards, directing the state department for immigration and citizen services to review downwards the new fees. Speaking when he appeared before the national assembly delegated legislation committee, PS Ambassador Julius Bitok, told the committee that the hike in the fees was occasioned by a 36-year delay to update the charges which have since gone up due to the higher cost of production of the crucial documents.
