The Nairobi County Government has announced plans to fast-track the completion of construction of a new wing at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital to address the crisis occasioned by the influx of patients at the facility. While admitting the bed capacity challenges at the facility, Health and Nutrition CEC Suzanne Silantoi has attributed the increased traffic of patients to what she described as the improved service delivery at the facility which she says currently serves about 4000 patients a day. The commitment coming following a story that was done by Citizen Television revealing the agony of mothers with newborn babies struggling to find space in the overcrowded maternity ward.
