The National Police Service began intense security operations in Isiolo and Marsabit Counties targeting hideouts used by the Oromo Liberation Army to facilitate its cross-border criminal enterprise. According to police cases of trafficking illegal arms and narcotics, and human smuggling are on the rise. Following increased cases of cross-border crime in areas of Sololo, Moyale, North Horr, and Merti Sub-Counties of Marsabit and Isiolo, ranging from human trafficking, trade of illegal firearms, narcotics, and contraband goods, illegal mining and kidnappings for ransoms, police have launched a crackdown to end the vice…NATS… Police have pointed at the Oromo Liberation Army militia saying its activities pose a serious threat to the national security…UPS… According to the inspector general, the militia group has taken advantage of close family and cultural ties untold suffering to communities living along the Kenya-Ethiopia border who have endured intimidation, forceful takeover of property, and sexual assault against women and girls… UPS… He has also appealed to the local communities in the operation areas to remain calm and cooperate with the National Police Service.
