Pope Francis will be laid to rest at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the four major basilicas in Rome. In a break from tradition, he will be the first Pope in over a century to be buried outside of the Vatican. The basilica, which was built in 400 A.D., held deep personal significance for him, making it a poignant and meaningful final resting place.
