Senior officials in Busia county found themselves in a tough spot as they struggled to account for 29 million shillings spent on renovating Busia Governor Paul Otuoma’soffice during the 2022/23 fiscal year. Appearing before the public accounts committee, the officials led by finance chief officer Topister Wanyama failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the expenditures. The committee also raised concerns over the lack of transparency in the awarding of a tender for Busia town beautification, which has been linked to the alleged misappropriation of an additional 2 million shillings.
